Civil EngineeringEngineeringThe Civil Engineering Department is responsible for technical administration of capital improvements to City infrastructure and building facilities. Responsibilities include planning, design, construction management and inspection of City infrastructure and facility projects. The Civil Engineering Department designs and manages construction of all capital improvement projects regarding City infrastructure and building facilities. The Department reviews plans for all new private development to ensure City design standards are met. The City of Spartanburg is also a Delegated Review Authority for stormwater plans and sewer systems. The Department is also responsible for managing the NPDES Phase II Stormwater Regulations, which are required by the SCDHEC & EPA. The Department provides assistance and general engineering information regarding City infrastructure to all City departments and citizens. inspects all new infrastructure to ensure all construction meets City
standards. Inspections will typically be for all storm drainage,
sewer line, curb and gutter, subgrade evaluations, paving and erosion
control. Construction sites are inspected on an ongoing basis to
ensure stormwater standards are met. Surveying DepartmentThe Surveying Department provides, survey & design, for capital improvement and city infrastructure projects such as transportation, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, etc. Surveying also manages the GIS base maps for the City of Spartanburg infrastructures, using GPS for the location mapping. They produce maps with various information to other city departments and also the general public. Maps are available by request. The mapping information available includes edge of pavement, street center lines, large building footprints, and approximant parcel locations. Surveying also locates rights of ways of city maintained streets, storm drainage, and sanitary sewer lines. (Back to top) |
