City of Spartaburg; Richerson ParkThe Human Resource Department is responsible for recruiting, screening and hiring, selection and staffing, development and training, retention, performance management systems, compensation, benefits, employee relations and safety and workers compensation.

This department researches, plans, and makes recommendations on future needs as it relates to HR issues such as Benefits Administration, Policy Development, Pay and Classification Plans, Performance and Evaluation systems, and skills needed for jobs.

In addition to these functions, Human Resources also maintains current data on all City employees and administers an Equal Employment Opportunity Plan. This department coordinates an employee assistance counseling program, physical examinations, awards programs, City-sponsored athletic teams, and compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to employment.
