City of Spartanburg Public Works
The City of Spartanburg Public Works Department is made up of five separate divisions working together as a team to make the City safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing. The Public Works Department also maintains City vehicles and equipment, and all City building and park and recreation centers.

Solid Waste Division
Solid waste generated by city residents and businesses is collected by the Solid Waste Division. A variety of residential services are offered, from once a week garbage, recyclable, and junk collection, to twice per month yard waste collection. Limited service levels are available for commercial solid waste collection as well.

Street Maintenance Division
Street maintenance and repair, right-of-way mowing, curb and gutter repair, and sidewalk repair are all responsibilities of the Street Division. In addition, the Street Division is responsible for maintaining Storm Water maintenance within the City limits (not private property).
Building Maintenance
The Building Maintenance Division provides maintenance and repair service for all City-owned buildings for cost effective operation of facilities, and provides technical support and assistance to departments in facility construction. This division also provides administers contracts for janitorial service, elevator service, water treatment service, security systems, fire extinguisher service, and pest control.
Fleet Maintenance
Fleet Maintenance provides maintenance and repair services to all City vehicles and motorized equipment (with the exception of fire trucks and transit buses). Trained mechanics and an inventory of parts and supplies allow Fleet Maintenance to complete major repairs. Most repairs except body work and upholstery can be performed on site. Outside contract services are used on an "as needed" basis. Fleet Maintenance also maintains Spartanburg Housing Authority's vehicles and equipment.
Grounds Maintenance
The Grounds Maintenance Division is responsible for grounds maintenance at all City Parks, Recreation Centers, The Swim Center, Ball Field Maintenance, Tennis Courts, City Hall, Morgan Square, Parking Garages, Bus Transit Station and the Magnolia Street Train Station. Other responsibilities include tree removal, tree planting and irrigation system maintenance, small scale landscaping projects, litter control, fountain maintenance and Central Business District flower maintenance.
Traffic Engineering
Traffic Engineering provides for the safe and effective flow of traffic through the use of engineering and the installation and maintenance of signs, signals, and pavement markings. This office manages the City’s street lights and helps plan future roadway projects to improve safety and traffic flow problems. They also receive and process citizen requests for speed limit, signal changes, and other traffic control needs.
