McMillan Pazdan Smith selected to design new community center on Northside

City Council voted unanimously at their meeting on Monday to give staff permission to negotiate with local firm McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture to design the new T.K. Gregg Center on the city's north side. The new recreation center should be under construction in 2017. Cost estimates have not been determined yet, as amenities and features of the new center have yet to be finalized. Price negotiations with McMillan Pazdan Smith are expected to take three to four weeks.

Also at Monday's meeting, Council heard a presentation about Solarize Spartanburg from the program's Community Outreach Coordinator, Ashley Edwards and Shelley Robbins, Sustainable Communities & Clear Air Associate with Upstate Forever. Part of the Solarize South Carolina initiative, Solarize Spartanburg aims to encourage more local homeowners to install solar systems by taking advantage of recently approved statewide policy changes that will make solar systems more affordable for some homeowners. The group has scheduled an information session on August 27 at 6 p.m. at Upstate Forever's downtown office, 100 E Main St. #R4. Follow this link for more information.
