City Council Approves First Reading on Redistricting Plan
Plan will require second reading for final passage
At their meeing Monday night, City Council voted 4-3 to approve plan three of the five proposed plans for City Council Redistricting. Mayor Junie White and Council members Jerome Rice, Robert Reeder, and Linda Dogan all voted in favor of the plan, while Council members Cate Ryba, Jan Scalisi, and Sterling Anderson were opposed. The plan must pass a second reading and must be submitted to the U.S. Justice Department in accordance with the 1965 Voting Rights Act before becomming law.
