City Council gives thumbs-up to Cleveland Hall restoration
Building will be restored to residential status, featuring nine apartments
Once home to one of Spartanburg's most prominent families, the historic Cleveland Hall, located at 589 E Main Street is on track to see residents filling its rooms again, as City Council unanimously approved a rezoning and development agreement for the property. The property's owner has plans to convert the home, owned for decades by Converse College and used for occasional events, into nine apartment units.
Under the agreement the City will take necessary steps to ensure the project benefits from a special assessment for rehabilitated historic property for a period of up to 10 years. Restoration of the historic home is expected to cost around $3 million.
