Council to make decision on hospitality tax funding allocations at future meeting

At their meeting on Monday, Spartanburg City Council heard from groups requesting a portion of the $450,000 of Hospitality Tax funding allocated to outside groups and events. In all, 21 groups requested funding, though Council voted 4-3 to exclude Team Spartanburg Sports Council, the group responsible for the Shrine Bowl, from consideration. The group did not submit its complete application before the deadline. Council members Jerome Rice, Jan Scalisi, and Sterling Anderson voted against the motion.
