Hub City Hog Fest, International Kite Festival highlight busy weekend in Downtown Spartanburg
Taking a look at this weekend's events in Downtown Spartanburg
The spring event season is upon us, as this weekend in Spartanburg promises to be a good one. In case you weren't already planning to spend some of that precious weekend time downtown, here's a few great events that just might change your mind
• First up, we've got the Hub City Hog Fest. Earlier, we recorded a podcast with a couple of the folks behind this downtown barbecue festival back for its second year this weekend. Kicking off Friday at 10 a.m., and running through Saturday at 10 p.m., the Hub City Hog Fest will be held at RJ Rockers in the Grain District. The event includes music, food venders, and a chance to sample offerings from some of the teams in this year's competition.
• Once you've satisfied your appetite for delicious porcine meats, take a walk over to Barnet Park on Saturday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. for Spartanburg's first International Kite Festival. The culmination of several previous community kite flying days throughout the city as part of the "Spartanburg Soaring!" series of events, both Barnet Park and the field behind the Chapman Cultural Center will be filled with people of all ages enjoying the breeze and watching their kites take flight. In the event of rain on Saturday, the Kite Festival will be held on Sunday from 1–4 p.m.
• If you're feeling up to something a little different, our friends at Hub-Bub have just the ticket, with "These Are Big Questions," an interactive art exhibition being held in the space downstairs from The Showroom. Taking place on Friday from 6–9 p.m., the show will "explore realms of uncertainty as it pertains to space, history and death through paintings, drawings, sculptures, films and performances!" The show will give the public a chance to see new work, works in progress and collaborative creations from all four of Hub Bub's Artists-in-Residence.
