Seven finalists to vie for three incentive/support awards

The selection committee for the Main Street Challenge, a downtown economic development program that will award three entrepreneurs $12,000 each plus thousands of dollars more in in-kind support, has pared a group of 17 semifinalists to seven finalists.

The finalists are (in alphabetical order):

Business Name (type of business, entrant)

Endeavor Forever (College/Greek Apparel, Krystal Borsch/Jessica Cole)

Haute Mama (Maternity Specialty Store, Allison Little/Sara Riddle)

The Local Hiker (Hiking/Backpacking Store, Michael & Kathy Silverman)

Motte & Sons Bootlegging Co. (Distillery, Michael & Eugenia Motte)

Pink Butterflies (Children’s Salon/Spa, Sheila McClesky)

Tortoise & the Hare (Running Specialty Store, Teresa Hrubala)

The Vibe Tea House (Tea House/Desserts; Cindy Ball, Marlanda DeKine, Antonio Mack)

The seven finalists will make final pitches to the selection committee at a public event at The Showroom on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for “The Main Event” are $5 and may be purchased at or at the door the night of the event. All ticket proceeds from The Main Event will be awarded to the crowd favorite as voted upon by people attending the event.

This will be the public’s first opportunity to find out which three new businesses will be opening their doors in Downtown Spartanburg, as well as learn more about each of the finalists that were selected from an initial pool of nearly 60 applicants in the Main Street Challenge, which was announced in February. After the finalists make their pitches, the Main Street Challenge selection committee will convene to review their scoring and finalize their decisions. The three winners will then be announced, along with which Main Street Challenge locations they will soon occupy.
