Spartanburg - Always Doing
The City of Spartanburg youth sports programs exist to help children in the development of positive life skills and self-concepts. Our mission is to provide safe, enjoyable recreation opportunities for all participants.
It is our goal to teach the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport, which young people need to be able to play in a safe and nurturing environment, where all children will have the opportunity to play regardless of skill level.
Finally, it is our vision to ensure that each child has a positive, rewarding experience while participating in the programs and that each child will learn the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, honor, and integrity while sharing with their coaches and teammates the emotions of success and failure.

Youth Football
The City of Spartanburg and District Seven are committed to providing a safe and fun environment for youth sports. We strive to make sure all children are treated equally regardless of their skillset so that each feels appreciated and part of the team. Our focus is on demonstrating how to live and play the game the right way, while ensuring players are prepared for the next stage. To that end, the Viking youth football program will focus on teaching youth proper football fundamentals, including proper blocking and tackling techniques.
For more information about the program or to inquire about volunteer coaching, please contact Nichole Cohen, Athletic Coordinator for the City of Spartanburg at 864-497-4254 or by email..
Itty Bitty Sports Series
The Itty Bitty Sports Series is designed for youth ages 3 to 6. This developmental program has seen tremendous success within the community. With very limited programming opportunities for youth ages 3 to 6, Itty Bitty provides an early opportunity to teach youth the fundamentals of sports in a non-competitive environment.
- Itty Bitty Basketball is a six-week instructional program that helps children learn the basics of basketball: dribbling/ball handling, shooting, passing/catching, and running/agility. Registration begins in December and the season starts in January.
- Itty Bitty Soccer is a six-week instructional program that teaches children the basics of soccer: kicking, dribbling, trapping, throw-ins, and agility. Registration begins in March and the season starts in April.
Both programs help prepare children for organized sports by using safe and fun equipment to teach basic motor skills.
All-Sports Summer Camp
The All-Sports Summer Camp for boys and girls will bring together multiple sports such as track, volleyball, kickball, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and baseball. The camps are held all week long at Spartanburg High School and Duncan Park. Sessions are led by the Viking's coaching staff. Registration begins in mid-May and camp starts the last week of June.
Youth Basketball
Youth Basketball Development is an innovative basketball program focused on youth aged 7-14 looking to refine their skills in preparation for playing organized basketball and making high school teams. The emphasis is on teaching fundamental basketball skills including dribbling, passing, jumping, shooting, rebounding, and running/agility. Registration begins in February and the season starts in March.
Developmental Softball
Developmental Softball for Girls--we are currently seeking to partner with Spartanburg District 7 to offer softball to girls interested in playing and developing basic fundamentals such as hitting, throwing mechanics, fielding technique, and base-running skills. This low player-to-coach ratio is perfect for the young player looking to learn and improve.
Pop-Up Flag Football
Pop-Up Flag Football is a Spring/Summer program that encourages free play while teaching children a variety of football skills including throwing, catching, pulling flags, running/agility, and kicking/punting. Teamwork is emphasized in this program. Boys and girls will learn how to play football in a FUN, non-threatening environment.
