The Downtown Airport plays a key role in the continued economic prosperity of the Spartanburg community. The airport is the 3rd busiest in terms of traffic among 55 general aviation airports in South Carolina, contributing $25 million to the local economy. With nearly 80,000 operations yearly, the airport creates 190 aviation-related jobs in the area with a payroll in excess of $10 million.
Airport Improvements
The airport underwent a $4.4 million transformation in 2011 with renovations to the terminal building and two new units of T-hangars.
Runway Extension Project
A $30 million project completed in 2017 extended the City of Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport by 1,700 feet, bringing the total length to nearly 6,000 feet. The project also included resurfacing the existing runway and upgrading airport navigational and lighting systems.
